Edge guard covers prevent damage on knives during transport. We strongly recommend purchasing knife covers if you are frequently traveling with your knives. 
Because they are hand made we sometimes have fitting issues with our wooden Saya sheaths. On the other hand, these edge guards are much more forgiving and will not have a problem as long as your knife is shorter than its maximum blade length.
